Okay basically, animal concerns research and education society (ACRES)
ACRES
The following information outlines the various volunteer positions available and explains what each involves. You can choose to help with just one area of work or a range of different areas.
......................................................................................................................
ACRES Wildlife Rescue Centre (AWRC)
Wildlife Guardians Programme
Assisting with animal care duties, e.g. preparing food, cleaning enclosures and providing environmental enrichment.
Assisting in daily operations and maintenance of the AWRC e.g. gardening, giving guided tours to visitors.
Interested volunteers are required to attend a Wildlife Guardians training programme over the course of four weekends. Wildlife Guardians must be at least 17 years old, be vaccinated against Hepatitis A & B and tetanus and must be ACRES members.
Membership fees can be paid any time during the training course and are as follows:
- Associate membership (21 years old and above): $30 per annum
- Associate life membership: $300 (one time payment)
- Youth membership (below 21 years old): $15 per annum
- Retiree membership (retired, 60 years old and above): $15 per annum
All Wildlife Guardians receive a special “Wildlife Guardians” T-shirt when they volunteer for the first time at the AWRC!
(dont think we can do this)
Community Involvement Programme (CIP) points are not applicable during the training course.
Gardening/Housekeeping Duties
Gardening and maintenance activities at the AWRC.
This includes tending to the organic garden, butterfly garden and pond, trimming grass and weeding as well as organising and maintaining the ACRES shop, store room and volunteer house.
(think we can do this)
Others/Project-based
Using specialist skills/professional expertise e.g. design, IT, legal, veterinary etc. Any skills which you wish to contribute to ACRES!
Projects: Group volunteers can propose their own project relating to animal welfare e.g. organising awareness events, producing educational materials (videos, animation etc).
(this might be hard to do)
General/Administrative Duties
General ongoing office-based work, such as inputting data, preparing educational materials, making badges for merchandise sales etc.
(Not applicable for group volunteers)
(dont think we can do this)
Roadshows/ Events/ Fundraising Team
Assisting at ACRES roadshows with outreach, education and fundraising. Providing manpower and/or logistical support at ACRES events. Also helping with ACRES fundraising initiatives (e.g. placement and collection of donation tins etc.)
(think we can do this)
Cruelty-Free Living Team
Researching the availability of “Cruelty-Free” products in Singapore, e.g. writing to companies asking about their animal-testing policies. Writing to supermarkets/shops asking them to stock cruelty-free/more humane products (e.g. products that have not been tested on animals). Carrying out surveys to learn about public attitudes towards cruelty-free products.
(dont think we can do this, er pretty challenging luh)
Education Team
Delivering our educational programmes to schools – participating in skits, assisting in educational activities, talks, school visits to AWRC etc.
(not sure if we can do this, but should be more for adults bah ><)
Wildlife Trade Team
Assisting with conducting undercover investigations into the illegal wildlife trade. Collaborating with the TCM community on the elimination of the use of wild animals in TCM.
Community Involvement Programme (CIP) points are not applicable during the training course.
(dont think we can do this)
